From Bitter to Sweet: Ridiculously Simple Flavored Instant Coffee Recipes
Looking to add a bit of spark to your morning coffee? Or maybe you have guests over, and you really don’t feel comfortable serving
them regular drip coffee – sure, it’s a staple in your life, but that’s not going to make anyone say “wow”!
There is a devious way to avoid serving Plain Jane coffee, not to mention saving yourself some coin from purchasing flavored
coffee beans or overpriced mixes – those can really rack up the bills! Instead, using common household ingredients (and, we admit, maybe
one or two things that are a little less common) you can create your own flavored instant coffee that can be made and served right away, or
stored in the freezer for special occasions!
Café Viennese
On a cold, blustery day, try a Café Viennese with a good book… a fireplace… or even just some good company. Don’t be surprised if
this flavored instant coffee ends up becoming one of your favorite comfort foods!
What To Use:
1 cup instant coffee
2 cups instant hot cocoa mix
2 cups powdered creamer
1 ½ cups sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
What To Do:
Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly, and then store in an airtight jar or container. When you’re ready to make the coffee,
use about 3-4 heaping teaspoons per cup of boiling water. For extra effect, add a little bit of whipped cream sprinkled with cinnamon to
the top of each mug!
Café Epicé
That’s French for “spicy coffee”… though it’s more of the ‘spiced’ variety than ‘spicy’, since that might taste a little odd. This
spiced instant coffee is very tasty, however.
What To Use:
1 cup instant coffee
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
What To Do:
Mix everything together! Make sure it’s mixed well, then store it in an airtight jar or container. When you’re ready to make the
coffee, use about 2 teaspoons to every cup of water, and adjust to taste.
Instant Chocolate Mint
Imagine: mint chocolate coffee on demand! It’s true, we stole Aladdin’s magic lamp and made this our third wish… can you really
blame us?
What To Use:
½ cup instant coffee
1 ½ cups powdered creamer
½ cup cocoa
1 cup sugar
1 dash of salt
½ teaspoon peppermint extract
What To Do:
Mix everything together except the peppermint extract, and stir it together until it’s well blended. When it looks smooth, add the
peppermint extract and mix it with everything else. Store in an airtight jar or container, and when you’re ready to make the coffee (so,
now?), add 2-3 heaping teaspoons for every cup of boiling water.
Café Caramel
This is a single-serving recipe, since it uses liquid caramel to provide flavor! It’s best made and served right away.
What To Use:
2 teaspoons instant coffee
2 teaspoons powdered creamer
2 tablespoons caramel syrup
1 cup boiling water
What To Do:
This coffee is super easy to make – even in the morning! Mix the creamer and coffee together in your mug with boiling water, and
then add caramel syrup! You could also try this with other flavors of syrup to add variety: Vanilla, Amaretto, Irish Cream… anything you
want that will help to avoid paying full price for flavored beans!
Chilled Café Mocha
You’ve just come in from a long day at work. It’s hot outside, and you need an energizer, but a hot drink is basically the last
thing you could possibly want at the moment… and eating an entire pint of ice cream probably isn’t the best plan either… solution? Coffee and ice
cream together!
What To Use:
¼ cup instant coffee
1 cup powdered creamer
½ cup chocolate syrup
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 scoops ice cream (or more, if you’re really craving it…!)
1 can club soda
2 cups hot water
whipped cream (if you want it)
What To Do:
Mix together the instant coffee, creamer, hot water, cinnamon and chocolate syrup together, and make sure the creamer
dissolves. Put it in the fridge until it gets cold! Then, add as much club soda as you want (depends on how large your glass is…) to the
first mixture. Add ice cream to your glass – or glasses, if you’re generous enough to be sharing – and pour the coffee mixture overtop. A bit of
whipped cream on top, and… on second thought, you won’t be sharing this one…
